We were super lucky to get a voucher to trial the Heller’s Crafty Cooks diced chorizo. The 200g pack comes in two separate 100g packs which is really convenient and helps to reduce food waste. I would love to see Hellers consider how their packaging could be more environmentally friendly. It feels like quite a bit of plastic waste for a small amount of chorizo.

We made a yummy pizza with one packet of our chorizo. It was an easy and quick meal and the chorizo added to the flavour of what would otherwise have been quite a boring pizza. We used a store bought base, pizza sauce, capsicum, grated carrot, chopped tomato, cheese and the chorizo. It was yum and the kids loved it! The best part – it took only a couple if minutes to get ready and then only 15 in the oven.

We also tried our chorizo in a risotto which was delicious. The pieces are possibly a bit chunkier than I would normally use for a risotto but I’ll take that given the convenience of not having to dice it up myself.

I did wonder how my kids – 7 and 4 – would go with chorizo as it can be a bit spicy but they liked everything we made with the Heller’s chorizo.

Overall, a yummy product but I will be reluctant to buy it frequently due to the plastic waste. Looking forward to Heller’s stepping up to the sustainable packaging challenge!

I went to my local pakin save but unfortunately they did not have them. Off to countdown and there was only 1 packet left!

I decided to make some mini egg quiches. I offered my 6 year old a try as we were making toilet and he asked dif it was dog food hehe, it did have a slightly slimy dog food looking texture but once he tried it he asked for more!
The quiches turned out great and were super delicious! It was convenient and not badly priced I think we would buy this product again

Thanks so much for letting us review the crafty cooks diced chorizo – We all love chorizo and I do cook with it often. It took me a while to find it at the supermarket and I have to say looking at it in the packet it does not look appealing but it was delicious with generous sizing and I love the fact it was divided into two packs. I also loved I didn’t have to chop it (as I always cut it too thick) and was so easy to just throw it in a pan as we like it crispy.

We made pesto pasta with it and was yummy and then I also threw it in an omelette. I will definitely buy again and the price was good value for chorizo and I also want to look out for the bacon strips.

Thankyou for the opportunity to review Hellers Crafty Cooks diced chorizo.
Packaging made it easy to find in the chilled deli section of the grocery store.
Firstly we’ve made a chorizo broccoli quiche, thanks Hellers for the convenience of diced chorizo! Super tasty and enjoyed by us all, Miss 6 even had seconds.
Glad for the convenient packaging as we will take a few packets on holiday with us. Excited to try it in a risotto when at DOC hut, love that it is already diced!!

  5. AubzLyss 31/03/2023 at 4:27 pm

We were fortunate to try the new Hellers diced chorizo and amazing is an understatement! It was so flavourful, we needed up cooking fried rice and the kids demolished their plates. We didn’t add to much ingredients to the fried rice so the chorizo could shine and that it did! So beautifully paired with some garlic, onions, soy sauce, scallions, peas, rice and seasoning. Close to becoming a family favourite!

Thank you for the opportunity to review Hellers Crafty Cooks Chorizo! As soon as I picked these up mini pizzas spring to mind as I needed to make lunch for my 20 month old daughter. Super easy to use, just rip open the packet (love that they’re in two seperate sections of 100 grams each so you can use one up at a time), top a wholemeal pita bread with a tomato sauce, diced capsicum, the chorizo and some cheese and pop it in the air fryer for 5 mins on 170. Absolute saviour when you have hangry children to feed! Safe to saw my daughter loved it as thee was nothing left!

Another recipe which this product was really useful in was an orzo vegetable bake. I made my usual recipe and added the chorizo before baking in the oven for 15 minutes to finish it off. Super easy and very convenient product to use!

  7. Stepanka 31/03/2023 at 11:29 am

We really enjoyed our chorizo dinner. I made Simple edamame beans, sweetcorn and chorizo stir-fry rice, which was enjoyed by us all. My six year thinks it’s still little bit too spicy but then… He can’t really handle much spicyness at all. 🙂 Definitely yummy.
It was very easy to find in our local supermarket. The packaging is neat, easy to handle. The double pack makes it easy to split in smaller portions if desired.
The chorizo is cut in even bits, just the right size for little mouths. I will definitely buy again, as I want to try to make some pizza next time. Thank you.

I love being able to cook for my family, and making a meal which we can all enjoy is a real joy. Unfortunately, as is the case for most families I’m sure, my family all has different tastes, and finding something which can be universally enjoyed is often a bit of a struggle. Adding in flavour to meals without it being too strong or overpowering can be tough. We are also incredibly busy, and I am always on the lookout for meal solutions which make preparing and cooking a little simpler or less time consuming. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to be given the opportunity to try out the Hellers Crafty Cooks diced chorizo- I was hoping this would be a really great solution for our mealtime issues.

Firstly, finding the product was really easy as it was in amongst the other cold meats in the chiller section of my local New World. Having picked it up it was great to see how much was in each pack, and being split into sections meant that it didn’t all need to be used at once. When I got the chorizo home, the first thing I did was have a taste. I was really pleasantly surprised that is was smoky and packed full of flavour, but not spicy, perfect for my whole family to enjoy. I gave some to my youngest daughter (4) and she loved it, even asking to have a bit more.

We decided to put it to the test, and so made some lunchbox staples- savoury scrolls with chorizo and cheese, and mini frittatas with chorizo, sweetcorn and spinach. Both were made extra easy to prepare with the chorizo being pre-cut into small pieces, and even after making a batch of 12 of both, I had only used one of the two sides of the pack. With this chorizo, a little goes a very long way, making it super economical, and also reducing any worries which I may have had about the sodium and fat content. Both of my daughters absolutely loved these, wolfing down the ones I gave them to try, and requesting them in their lunchbox each day since I made them. My hubby also commented on how nice they were, saying that the chorizo was the ingredient which really made them sing.

After the success with the lunchbox fillers, I decided to really put this chorizo to the test by making an evening meal using it. I decided that it would be a great idea to jazz up my standard (but rather boring) creamy pasta. I cooked off some onions slowly and then added the chorizo alongside grated carrot and garlic . Once all of the veggies were cooked through and the chorizo had had some time to start to release its delicious flavour, I added in sweetcorn, edamame beans, spinach, crème fraiche and a little stock, and let it reduce down to form a delicious creamy sauce. Served coating pasta, and accompanied by a fresh salad, this was an amazingly quick but super tasty midweek meal. I was so happy that my whole family loved it, with my eldest daughter (7) asking for seconds!

Overall, this was an awesome solution to weeknight meals. Super convenient, really tasty and a family favourite, making it a sure-fire winner. The only feedback I have is that it would be great to see it in a more sustainable packaging option, something which could easily be transitioned to in the future. I will definitely be using this delicious chorizo again, and I can’t wait to see what other recipes I can use it in.

I have used this product in 3 dishes so far being Fried Rice, Mac & Cheese, and the humble cheese toastie. Perhaps i am a woosy but this has a very strong flavour, and not much is needed. I noticed people saying in their reviews that it was priced to high but I would like to make the point that a little seems to go a really long way. I have yet to open the second packet of product. I will be using the second packet for the next time i make pizza! It will be perfect with the extra boost of flavour it carries.

  10. Moggiecat 30/03/2023 at 6:15 pm

Loved the chorizo, great sized convenient packs ready to go. The pieces were relatively even and it was enough for one pizza (three cheeses and two meats) plus lightly fried with chopped parsley over pink oyster mushrooms cooked in butter. Both looked great and appetising and were flavourome. I would buy again as often I only want a small amount – rather than a big block.

Thank you for the opportunity to try Hellers Crafty Cooks diced chorizo.
We decided to make a Fettuccine Pasta Dish with the Hellers Chorizo adding bacon, vegetables and an Alfredo sauce, It was Delicious ! The chorizo did have a hint of spice but not too much for our family (My husband being the only one enjoying spicy food) Our daughters aged 7 and 3 loved the chorizo and with adding other creamy elements we didn’t notice the heat.
I loved that they had separated the packaging into 2 portions per packet and I found the portions per packet super generous.
They retailed at our local Pak’n‘Save for $7.50 which I did find quiet expensive but if they were on sale I’d definitely purchase as we were all super impressed with taste, size of the chorizo was perfect for kids and portions per packet were very generous

Thanks so much for the opportunity to be a reviewer for this yummy crafty kids hellers chorizo. Once we found it in the supermarket we were all good, but it did take a wee bit of searching!
Love the seperate break off packs, very convenient for our family.
Made a couple of dishes with it,
Home made pizza with chorizo, cheese and whatever else the kids wanted. Also mac n cheese, using the chorizo in replace of the bacon. Both dishes were demolished by the family and we all loved the flavour that the chorizo added to the meals. I do wonder if there’s a lot of salt in it? But super yum!
The bite sized pieces would be nice in lunchboxes for kids too, to add some protein into their daily lunches.
Thanks again I will look at buying these again on special occasions, as they were $7.50 at countdown which is quite alot. But nice as a treat.

  13. VL15 29/03/2023 at 11:58 pm

The diced Hellers Chorizo is so tasty and super convenient. We used the chorizo in pasta carbonara and fried rice. I like it that the chorizo is packed into 2 smaller packets. More hygienic if you are cooking a small meal. Great product! Thank you for this delicious trial.

  14. Robmel 29/03/2023 at 9:48 pm

WOW – what a treat it was to give the Hellers Crafty Cooks Diced Chorizo a whirl!
We woke up today to the coldest morning of the year (so far).
So my boys naturally asked for risotto for dinner – the perfect meal to add our diced chorizo to!
Thelma our trusty Thermomix was given the go ahead to whip up our usual mushroom & spinach risotto recipe.
But todays added bonus made it a delicious
    …..“Chorizo, Mushroom & Spinach Risotto”…..
the boys downed it and asked for second helpings. That is one of the best indicators you can get to note how tasty it was!

    Down to the nitty gritty….
The 200g pack comes in two sealed 100g packs – which means it stays fresher for longer if you don’t use it all up at once.
Secondly the taste – cannot be faulted! It has a mild spice which adds depth to the dish without overpowering it.
Thirdly the versatility – the options are endless! There is so much potential in using these ready to eat diced little morsels. One of my boys have asked for pieces in his school lunchbox tomorrow – so chorizo he shall get!
Finally for us the Gluten Free factor is a huge positive – as we have a little one who is intolerant and knowing he can have a tasty treat is definitely a winner!

And with that; I think Hellers Crafty Cooks range might just have to be on our weekly shopping list as the whole fam gave them the big thumbs up!
Thanks Kidspot for the opportunity. ♥️

  15. kanahagger 29/03/2023 at 7:39 pm

i made pizza with this products. easy to use and taste good! we all enjoyed. children age 6,10,14. not too spicy for them.
it is convinient to have two separate packages.
we will try to add to salad, deviled eggs, stir fried rice, omlette etc.
    Thank you.

  16. juliereidnz 29/03/2023 at 11:40 am

Thank you for the opportunity to try Hellers Crafty Cooks diced chorizo.
First thing we did was try the chorizo straight out of the packet! My husband and I loved the taste but it was too spicy for the kids which was a shame as I had planned on using it in homemade fried rice and as a pizza topping.
It would be great if they did a mild version so our whole family could enjoy it.
My husband decided to use it in a wrap for lunch and it really packed a good flavor punch. It is also good just to use as a snack of protein.
Next time I might opt for the diced bacon instead as this would suit our family a whole lot more.

  17. alley1992 28/03/2023 at 12:26 pm

What a tasty product. We made our go to creamy tomato chorizo pasta. You can pack it with hidden veggies and the kids love it. We usually buy primo chorizo and chop it up which is time consuming! But this pre cut product made a weeknight dinner so much quicker. Will definitely be buying this again for my family. Perfect size too for my 1 year old to eat and didn’t require any more cutting. Thank you Kidspot and hellers

Hellers Crafty Cooks Diced Chorizo review
I am one of the lucky ones to be chosen to trial the new Hellers Crafty Cooks Diced Chorizo!
The first thing that interested me about this product was that it was gluten free, as most Hellers products are I believe. As someone who has coeliac disease, it is helpful to know I can eat Hellers products without making myself sick.
The price at New World was $6.99 for a 200g pack. The packaging is the familiar Hellers two plastic pockets which is super convenient for a two person household like mine who doesn’t want to open a larger packet and have the remaining contents go stale before they are consumed. The plastic pull lid was easy to pull open
I decided to make a supreme style pizza with the Chorizo as the meat. The diced chorizo was so convenient as all I had to do was sprinkle it over the top of my pizza before adding the cheese! I was unsure of how spicy the chorizo was going to be, so I ended up using about 70g of chorizo on the pizza just to suit the fact that I was serving it not only to myself but my two year old as well. I needn’t of worried as the chorizo carried more of a tingle of spice flavour, rather than a burning heat that I knew my daughter might not enjoy. This is perfect for our tastebuds, but I believe if you used more chorizo in your recipe it would bring further heat and flavour. We both enjoyed the supreme chorizo pizza, and the whole pizza was devoured in one sitting! The chorizo remained soft and delicious on the pizza, even after cooking in a fan bake oven at a high heat.
My only reservation about this product is probably the price, being that we are on a fairly fixed budget, however it made our pizza so easy to make, not to mention delicious! For a special easy dinner night this was a big hit.

    Supreme Pizza recipe
1 gluten free pizza base (I used the Pams GF one)
    2-3 tbsp Tomato paste
    1 tbsp vegetable oil
    1/2 an onion sliced
    1/2 cup sliced button mushrooms
    1/2 red capsicum sliced
    1 tomato sliced thin
A handful of baby spinach roughly chopped
    100g Hellers diced chorizo
1 cup grated cheese (I used edam)

    Method:
    1. Turn oven onto 220 degrees celsius fan bake.
    2. Place pizza base on tray, spread tomato paste over top.
    3. Sauté onions for a minute in saucepan before adding mushrooms and capsicums to soften. Set aside.
    4. Sprinkle baby spinach over pizza, followed by chorizo, sautéed vegetables, tomato then finally cheese.
    5. Place pizza in oven for 10-12 minutes until cheese is starting to turn golden.
    6. Slice and enjoy!

Thank you for the opportunity to review the hellers diced chorizo..
We made several meals out of the packs provided and both adults and children enjoyed the chorizo
We made pizza, chicken and Chorizo paella and my husband made a honey and chorizo baked Camembert
The pieces were not too spicy which was great as our youngest hates anything too spicy but loved these!
Simple and easy to use great flavour and convenient sized packs .. we will be buying again 🙂

We loved trying the Hellers Crafty Cooks Diced Chorizo. I love that it is easy to add into a variety of recipes such as salads, pasta and more. I made One Pot Spanish Chorizo Fried Rice and the whole family enjoyed it. Packaging was great and easy to open.

Thanks to Hellers for the awesome opportunity to review the diced Chorizo!!

It was actually perfect timing as we had a weekend crammed with sports and races and needed a decent snack on the road plus an easy dinner when we got home. So put Hellers Chorizo to the test!

The kids, aged 8 and 2, loved just eating the diced Chorizo out the packaging as is, amazing convenience of it all being ready to eat! I think it disappeared within a few minutes! The 2 year old asked for more…answer enough right there! The 8 year old said he liked that it was not too spicy, but still had great flavour and was not bland. He said he would like it on some crackers next time as a suggestion! He told me that it not too chewy or made him rush for water, he would like to see me add it to the lunch box more often!!!

I then used the second packet for a quick and easy dinner…I made a lentil, chorizo and halloumi warm salad with roti.
I fried up some capsicum, added a tin of lentils, some spices, spinach, tomato, diced chorizo and halloumi. Sprinkled the rest of the diced Chorizo over the top of the meal. It literally took me 10minutes max to prep and serve!!! Kids and mom and dad loved the flavour it brought! I love how it was so easy to add extra flavour and protein to a dish and it did not take a lot of time to get it done.

The only down side is the packaging is quite fatty, but the Chorizo really tastes great! I like the size of the diced Chorizo, great for little fingers and to mix into dishes. So it spreads evenly. I honestly preferred it heated up a bit before eating, personal preference, but the rest of the family loved it hot and cold! I also like the fact the skin is not flaking or chewy like some times it happens, this is perfectly constructed that it holds together! It didn’t leave any bad after taste or repeat either which is positive!! I always worry about that.

Definitely a win with our family!!!

  22. Katza1 24/03/2023 at 10:05 am

I received the chorizo packets ,found them easy to find in the chiller at N World .
Packaging is easy to open ,however wasn’t sure if recyclable.
I decided to use in pasta and make mini pizzas .,to our own taste .
The product was ideal for both of these recipes ,and is very versatile and convenient to use .
The chorizo was mild in flavour but still had a spicy bite to it .
I thought it was quite expensive at $6.99 a packet ,however there was a lot in each packet ,possibly more something I would buy for a change and not too often ,because of that and two other reasons ,quite high in fat and contains preservatives which I’m not keen on ,or flavour enhancers ,hence I didn’t trial on my grandchildren .but I’m sure they would have found both recipes yummy as we did enjoy .
For me I probably wouldn’t buy this product very often ,,but if I wanted to add more flavours it is a reasonable option .

    • Katza1 24/03/2023 at 10:07 am

Also should add the sodium levels are quite high too

  23. Lexxx13nz 23/03/2023 at 12:05 pm

Really enjoyed having a play around with this Chorizo! The handy pre-diced packets were easy to open and made life a little bit easier not having the chop it up myself, great for those time-poor mealtimes. I ‘fancied-up’ our usual Mac & Cheese and made a Chorizo,
fresh spinach & parmesan version using spiral pasta- kids loved it, so did the husband! The chorizo had a nice flavour, I’ll admit I didn’t think the youngest would touch his as he can find spice in absolutely anything, but the parmesan dulled it down a bit and he enjoyed it (except for the green stuff!).
