star rating 5

We’ve been lucky enough to receive 30 kits of the soon to be released Nurofen for Children FeverSmart Temperature Monitor and we want to know your thoughts!

With added benefits for your little one, this innovative new wearable baby monitor is designed to allow parents to continuously and accurately monitor their child’s fever without disturbing their sleep.

This discreet, non-invasive device gently attaches to your baby’s underarm using an adhesive strip made from medical grade silicone that provides pain-free removal. It then transmits your baby’s temperature continuously to a free app on your smartphone or other device that will notify you if your baby’s temperature is in the high range (if push notifications are enabled).

The highlights:

  • Suitable for children aged 0 – 3 years
  • Automatic push notifications to a free app when temperature is outside of normal range
  • Tracks symptoms and medication
  • App allows you to create individual profiles so you can monitor your children individually
  • FeverSmart uses low energy Bluetooth, with emissions considerably lower than phones and other household items
  • The Bluetooth range is up to 40m in open sight. The base station should be within 1.5m of the monitor

Hitting the shelves mid-Feb 2018 (so consider this your VIP insight), the FeverSmart Monitor retails at $149.99 and will be available at local pharmacies and baby outlets.

Another follow up… after a few fails trying to use the monitor on 22 month old I was finally able to attach it while he was sleeping. Stayed on perfectly well now that he wasn’t aware of it and trying to pull it off. In fact when he woke I don’t think he realised it was there until much later – when he pulled it off! The trouble was that he sleeps with his arms up most of the time and this seems to effect the reading, giving much lower readings than actual. Watching the movement of the graph – going to feel how hot he is when the graph has an upward trend was my work around and that seemed to work fine.

My overall opinon after several days of using this is that it’s great for peace of mind and if you have a child that sleeps with arms down, maybe on their side. Easy to use. Comfortable and uninvasive for the child. Only accurate under specific conditions. Overall a great invention under the right conditions
I would recommend this for children who sleep with arms down, however given how much these retail for I myself probably wouldn’t buy at this stage (unless 23 month old changed his sleeping position) but rather buy a really good ear infer red thermometer that I could be sure of the temperature, even though the convenience factor is not there.

I just admit I was a bit sceptical of this when I first received it, but quickly changed my mind. This is one of the products that is good for peace of mind. Our wee one had a fever, cough and blocked nose and was grizzly and tired so slept a lot – but we were able to track his temperature without waking him which made me feel much better about his big sleeps. It was also a lot less fuss (from our wee one) to get his temperature. I would recommend this product just for peace of mind!

Super easy to use! App easy to find and download. Son came home from daycare with a fever he is 2 years old. Gave medicine and put him to bed later. I set it all up easily, added in the medicine I had given him and watched his temp all night- super handy and takes so much stress away from a already stressful situation! Only thing would be good to come with more of the sticky strips!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to trial this product.

When the monitor arrived, it was nicely packaged with everything you needed included – including batteries. I found it easy to set up – however I would recommend setting it up once you purchase not just before you need to use it so that it is easily ready to begin if you have a sick child – as well as making sure that you always had a supply of the adhesives on hand. The monitor stayed on well and my four month old didn’t mind when I stuck it on him, whilst it was on or when I took it off.
I found this more accurate than the thermometer which we normally use and it also easier to take the temperature.
It was great being able to read the temperature from your phone instantly and also room to make notes and set up individual profiles for family members, in advance. You are also able to record the history for each profile as well. There was a link on the app to see a video tutorial on how to set everything up which was also really helpful.
Overall an excellent product and would recommend this monitor to others as well.

Further comments – still using with 4 year old as 1 year old just pulls it off when I attach the monitor. 4 year old wore it all night. Comfort was fine and didn’t leave a mark when we took it off in the morning – although a wee sticky patch on his skin that he didn’t notice. The motion did keep loosing connection on and off during the night and not sure how accurate the measurements were as he moved around as he slept and didn’t keep his arm down covering the monitor while he slept. However. It did reconnect by itself eventually and when I woke up to check I could tell by the general trend of the graph on my phone (backed up by me feeling his forehead!) when his temp was going up again.
I think that could be improved is having the ability to log medicine doses without starting a monitoring session and also the ability to see a list of medicine dosages and times without going back and looking through the graph.

I was so thrilled to receive this, always struggling to get a thermometer anywhere near my children is never easy. I did hope that i would have to wait a little while before needing to test it out, BUT, with my lot when one gets better another comes down with something, a continuous cycle.
When my youngest caught a V&D bug and was extremely distressed it was so easy to place the sticker on her and leave it there rather than regularly try to calm her. I had no trouble setting the app up on my phone, i’m not the most tech savvy but it was simple enough to do. I loved that i could be at one end of the house and still monitor her rather than be sat in the same room. Having more than one child, keeping an eye on them as well is equally important. The range was great, right through my home, which may just be my luck with the layout, regardless, i was very impressed.

I loved being able to glance at my phone and tell my colour of background whether her temp was up or down, and also being able to note the medication i had given her. Extremely useful if we had ended up at the doctors or hospital. Was also great that had any of my other children come down sick at same time i could set up a profile for them too.

I definitely recommend to anyone with children who are hard to monitor with the usual methods, or one’s who require monitoring overnight, no one likes having to wake children when they’ve finally manged to get to sleep. It is a wonderful product. and i feel so much relief knowing i have it with me.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to have trialed this product. We finally got to use it lastnight after waiting weeks to use it, my son randomly started project vomiting every couple hours – now usually we would have to try and attempt to take his temperature with a underarm thermometer however this time round we got to use the nurofen FeverSmart and oh boy what a breeze it was! My son didn’t even notice it was on at all! Overnight monitoring was so easy, it seemed to good to be true! The app alerted us when his temp went over normal. I’ve already recommended this to many of my mummy friends esp the ones with newborns. Thank you again!

  8. nwoodford 26/03/2018 at 11:20 am

This was a great opportunity that we received to trial this. I have had limited success with other forms of thermomentor (ear one doesn’t seem to be at all accurate and under arm apparently ‘hurts’ and takes a long while to get a reading for wriggly boys!)
The packaging was great – everything slotted into place in the box for safe postage without possibility of breaking in transit. There was also a powerball and memory stick included which seems to be a bonus from the standard pack when you buy it. A very useful bonus!
I downloaded the app on my phone and waited for a chance to use it (hoping that I wouldn’t have to!). Unfortunately both boys are unwell today so I had a chance to try it. They were both resting on the couch watching TV and so I gave it a go – 1st on 22 month old. He let me put it on fine and it started the warm up which can take 8 minutes. He didn’t keep his arm down the whole time like he was supposed to but as he was sitting still and arm down most of the time it didn’t seem to effect the set up – maybe it took a bit longer but apart from that it seemed fine. I was happy to see the green screen on my phone and kept it monitoring him for a while. Then he decided he’d had enough and when I was out of the room somehow removed it – or maybe it fell off, but whichever he decided he wasn’t wearing it anymore – or sitting still! So obviously this would not work in such situations as you need to keep the monitor(& child) within 1.5 meters of the base. I imagine getting it on the child at night would be ok if either there were sleeping very deeply or were quite sleepy when you put it on them. The great thing though is that can tell if they take it off as a notification shows up from the app on your phone.
Next I tried it on my 4 year old (the instructions in the box don’t specify not for older children). I actually found this more successful as he was more compliant – and also probably felt worse as the app showed his temp in the orange. He sat still for a long time and it monitored his temp. Then I got a notification that the connection had been lost. I’m not sure if it had slipped slightly or what had happened but I took it off and reapplied (the sticky strip was fine for restocking all this time which was good) and it started working again.
He said that it didn’t feel uncomfortable when I asked him but eventually he’d had enough if it and asked me to take it off. He also moved around a little and lay on the couch with his arms up for a while and it didn’t seem to effect the reading much at all.
From this first use I would suggest it is very useful in certain situations and certainly at nighttime if you can get it attached correctly. In other situations (day time etc) then it would be likely you’d need a different sort of thermometer. Also from my experience it seems to be more successful with older children!
Quite easy to use though and seems very accurate when used properly.
Will try again on 1 year old at nighttime and see how this goes.

I got to review the fever smart and overall i found it a good device in theory but in practice it wasn’t quite so practical. However overall its a pretty awesome tool to have when kids are sick.
The set up wasnt too difficult. There are a few steps to it, but there is a link to the youtube video to help. When connecting to the device your phone needs to have wifi, bluetooth and gps on, which i find drains the battery rather quick. Once connected its super easy to reconnect again at a later time.
The sticky pads were easy to apply to the FeverSmart device, but the package only comes with 4, so you get a maximum of 4 days of monitoring before you need to purchase more. They do however stick well and last a long time, even on a sweaty child.
I found the device easy to position after a couple attempts to figure out the best spot on my small one, and its more accurate when the arm is down. When placed it can take up to 8 mins to warm up before you can get a reading. Once its warmed up though it will continue to monitor the temperature, and alert you if it gets too high. The colour of the app background changes with the temperature so you can glance quickly and see what range the temperature is in.
My fav part of the app was that you can enter in medicines, when they were given, how much etc so you can keep track. You can also add symptoms when they appear. This is so handy for when you have to visit the doc and cant remember exactly when symptoms started or how often you were giving meds.
Miss 5 was really compliant with it on, didnt notice it once the initial placing was done. She even wanted to hold onto the bluetooth booster / base so she didnt “lose reception” haha
Miss one will be wearing it tonight so I will add more in the morning when I know how it goes on two hourly wake ups, breastfeeds, and wiggling around!
The FeverSmart does take the hard work out of getting temperature readings at night, especially as you dont even need to wake the child!

Wow so excited when received to trial.
Im going to post a few times.
First impression was packaging… very cute! Im not sure if its was for the trials or what you would get when purchased. Any way it came in a colourful shoe size box, easy to spot. With lid off box is shaped like a bed with a flap like a blanket that opens up to introduction, a usb stick, power bank with flashlight, some fact cards and the important pack with the temp monitor, batteries x3AAA, x4 Adhesives and the base station with very informative Insructions in two languages.
Monitor smells nice like lavender to me not nasty plastic or whatever.
I read the manual and watched the video. Downloaded the app and added my 2 year old and 7 year old and by the way this can be used for over 3 years old which makes this product more benificial to buy.
App set up was easy and pairing monitor too once charged. The charging station needs an on off switch to save battries as when I left on over night it used 30% for some reason, so have to take out battries after use. Patches can be stored in this small product which is handy for travel also.
Will post again with how my daughter went with a temperature.

  11. Angelgirl081 23/03/2018 at 3:05 pm

When we received this in the post, I was excited to test it out, but also hoped that I wouldn’t have to use it anytime soon, because miss 14 months had only just recovered from a stint in hospital. Unfortunately a week ago she got sick again (first time in childcare so seems to be getting hit with all the ills). She was very sleepy and tired so I didn’t want to have to keep shoving a thermometer in her ear so this was perfect. I just attached the little monitor under her arm while she wasn’t looking (I find this easiest, because otherwise, if she notices me sticking things on her, she will try to rip them straight off) and stuck it down with the adhesive strip. These strips are quite good and stayed on the whole night. You can’t really use them again though once you take them off so we will have to look out for these at the chemist and super market.
Connecting to the app was pretty straight forward as well, I could easily get a good read on her temperature anywhere in the house too which is good (sometimes if I have to go into the room, she will wake up as she is quite a light sleeper) even though some points are about 10+ meters from where she sleeps and through walls. It even worked down in our concrete walled basement area, below our external garage.
Once she was awake, I did some tests using My mums digital ear thermometer too and they were both pretty similar, sometimes varying by a couple of points but nothing too significant and I think that was more to do with her armpit being warmer with clothes.
I do really like the technology and the fact I could check on her through the night without having to get up and disturb her, however I am not sure if this is something I would buy as an alternative to an ear thermometer, simple because an ear thermometer can easily be used by all members of the family as opposed to just my youngest child. Also I would be interested to see how much the adhesive strips will be to buy.

Thank you Kidspot for this awesome opportunity! It is so great to have this to monitor my little man.
When the package turned up I was a little intimidated at everything it included, but the setup was SO easy, I was pleasantly surprised.
My 5mo was not phased at all by the monitor, he was even rolling around a bit when I initially put it on, throwing his arms around, and it stayed put. It didn’t hurt him to pull it off though, so they’ve done really well with the adhesive.
I sleep him with one arm swaddled, so it is easy to keep his arm down over the monitor too.
I didn’t need to track medication and symptoms, but I may need to use this feature tomorrow when he gets his shots. I’ll be sure to update my review if I do!
My favourite feature has got to be that I could sit in the lounge with my tea, knowing that I could check his temp any time I wanted without disturbing him! I tend to worry a bit about whether he’s too warm/too cold, so this is a biggie for me.
Very glad I got the chance to review this and will be sharing what I’ve learnt with my antenatal group as I’m sure some of them will be very interested!

I was so excited to trial this – Thank you. It’s a brilliant innovation. My husband travels for work so when little ones are sick I’m on my own, so something like this is amazing for helping you manage your little one through the bugs especially in the middle of the night !! First impressions – the packaging is cute – it’s in the design of a bed, and inside is all you need to get going including batteries for the charging station!. The monitor itself also comes with 4 adhesive patches for the monitor (the intention being you throw out the adhesive after each use). I assume you can buy extra adhesives from the chemist – you’d need to replenish these after an illness as they say not to reuse them (they lose their stickiness when removed)
Set up was easy. I downloaded the app, and loaded in our details. Added the two little ones details to the app as well. The first night we tried it, my little girl didn’t have a temperature, but I thought it was a good base test for the monitor itself. Like all devices/apps, there’s a pairing component to it. You need to pair the monitor to your phone/device with app before attaching the monitor – it is just a click of a button. Very simple.

Attaching the monitor needs care and accuracy to ensure accurate readings. The key is to get the gold sensor part (check the photos in this review page) sitting well under their arm in the arm pit. I found with my girl thatI needed to make sure she slept with their arms down otherwise the monitor will register a bit cooler than is actual. My little girl is 2 ½ and she had no issue wearing this through the night. She did sleep with arms up at times though (and was in PJ’s) & I’d go & put her arms down. Younger children with onesies on probably wouldn’t have this issue. You need to leave the charging/Bluetooth station beside their bed. I didn’t do this the first time, and it disconnected from the monitor just shortly after I went to sleep, and I didn’t realise.

The following trials I did all the same things but put the charging station by her bed, and the monitor continued through the night without issue. We had a couple of peak temperatures which my phone alerted me to, and if it disconnects you also get an alert. It was much easier at night, compared to the ear thermometer. It was great to just check my phone to check she was okay from a temperature perspective, and if it was a little lower in temperature than expected I also knew she’d likely kicked covers off! You need to pop the monitor back onto charge when you finish using it, but its relatively quick to charge up.

The app also records medicine and symptoms. I recorded medicine which was very helpful as often I forget how long it had been since the last dose, and I could easily check the app. If she’d had more serious temperature I would have also added symptoms. Really handy features if you need to visit the doctor as you can just look at the App for that information.

My favourite feature is just the monitor itself and the alerts that are on the phone – especially graphically being able to see the correlation between when you’ve administered medicine and when the temperature drops and starts to rise. Its very useful in managing the fever and knowing when they’re getting better or worse.

I would recommend this to families with younger children. Much past 3 years old and I’m not sure it would be as accurate – that said, when a child is sick they don’t tend to move too much in sleep, so it would still be useful with some toddlers, but amazing for babies and young toddlers

  14. wince192 20/03/2018 at 12:06 pm

First thank you for giving me the opportunity to give this a try. The set up process was vert easy, the video was great to explain how it all worked.
The actual thermometer was very soft so my daughter didn’t notice it under her arm, and the adhesive didn’t pull and was easy to remove.
It was great to be able to see how her temperature was without going into her room and possibly waking her.
I did also try it with my older daughter (8 Yrs) to see what she thought and she said she couldn’t feel that it was there.
It is a great product and even though it is a bit expensive to would still recommend it, it is great peace of mind. I also checked online and you can buy more of the adhesive strips.

  15. tassynicole 16/03/2018 at 7:37 pm

Wow what a brilliant little device this is. This has been a lifesaver for our family as our 15mth old battled an hideous virus. Firstly I have to say I was impressed with the packaging. It was nicely presented and the device itself comes in a handy case that is compact.

I found it very easy to set up – in fact I did in it in the middle of the night when we were caught by surprise with our little ones high temp. It was quick and easy and very simple to use. I did find it a little hard to get it in the right spot initially but once it was on it worked a charm.

I really like that it sends alarms when the childs temp is in the danger zone and the colour coding of the different temp ranges helps when you have a quick look in the middle of the night to know whether to be concerned or not. I also liked that I could look back over and see where the temp spikes where and overall how his temp was running. While I didnt use the medication list part I think this is a valuable addition as it can help you keep track of when medicine was given.

I didnt find the adhesive left any stickiness on my sons skin which is great. It stayed on all night and didnt seem to bother him. Although I did expect it to be more flexible.

I think this is a beneficial device for any parent of young kids.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity and sending our family this amazing product to trial!
A teething 8.5 month old and sniffles from the changing hot cold weather has meant temperatures we have had a few nights of higher then average temperatures and an unsettled baby in our house!
On opening the box i had a good read of the information pamphlet, it had great information and well informed the user or any risks etc involved in the use and more so you knew everything before even starting set up which is great peace of mind for any parent..
I was amazed at how easy it was to set up and how easy the app is to use and the colour coordinated system for set up is an awesome idea!
We have sensitive skin in our house so I was happy that the little lightening shaped patch didn’t irritate her skin or react in anyway and was easy to put on and take off. My little girl barely even noticed it and slept soundly through the night as usual.
I am dreading the winter bugs and colds that will be coming our way living in the cold south but am looking forward to using this more and more for ease of mind during these times so I can monitor our little ones temp through the night and hopefully we will all rest easier!
I have already recommended this product to so many mums, it really is an amazing product, an amazing idea and has been well thought out! It is well worth the price in my opinion!
Thank you again for letting us review this! I feel ever grateful to have this in our lives now!

  17. Tayjasmine 15/03/2018 at 4:07 pm

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to trial out this product. Surprisingly, the day we received this product, my daughter wasn’t feel well and had a temperature. It was very easy to set up and she didn’t notice it under her armpit. When I removed the monitor, there was no skin irritation. The app is also very user friendly and easy to use. The information came directly to my phone which I thought is informative. Thank you so much, I would recommend this product to anyone who have young ones.

  18. cbear 12/03/2018 at 1:55 pm

Thank you for sending me this product to trial.
Really easy to set up – great instructions and instructional video available online through the app. I love the colour system to identify the temperature/stage of set up. The alert system will be fantastic.
My daughter loves the lightening bolt sticker and happily went to bed with it on without meddling with it. Plus no skin irritation and we’ve had it on for 5-6hours. Comes off without any pulling.
The information pamphlet also includes information on any risks and testing on safety due to it emitting a signal, this eased my mind.
All round I’d definitely recommend it and feel very fortunate having been able to trial it thank you. My shallow sleeper had zero sleep disturbance 🙂

  19. aquamarine 01/03/2018 at 10:33 am

Would love to trial this for my 22 month toddler. He absolutely hates having his temp measured from a very young age by conventional methods & this product is fantastic as will allow overnight and during daytime sleeps monitoring without disturbing him. I also have a second baby on the way so this product would be fantastic to trial on both in the future especially during the season when my toddler will be bringing home all the bugs from daycare to share with the new bub.

  20. Angelgirl081 27/02/2018 at 2:22 pm

We would love to give this a go for my just turned one year old. We have had a run of bad luck with her health over the past month, including spending all night in the ED last night as she had high temps, lethargy and no wees for over 20 hours (but not dehydrated, was a bit of a mystery really). I have been borrowing my mum’s thermometer to monitor her, however, little miss doesn’t really like having it inserted into her ear and it can be really hard as a single parent to hold her still, comfort her and take her temp at the same time. This would make things so much easier as I could just pop it under her arm and let her get some well needed rest, without having to wake her up.This wwould also be helpful because I also have a 4 year old who often requires me to pry my attention away from her little sister, and so I wouldn’t need to be popping in and out of babies room all the time, worried that her temp was getting too high, because the app would let me know if I needed to be concerned.

  21. Kate.cooke 27/02/2018 at 9:43 am

My almost 1 year old is about to start daycare. This will be very handy to track her temp with all those nasty daycare and winter bugs that we will be catching.

  22. nzmonstar 26/02/2018 at 3:02 pm

My niece was born prem and is now very prone to infections so this would be great for monitoring her temperature.

  23. Stef000 26/02/2018 at 12:41 am

I’ve got a baby and a 3 year old and we bought a digital thermometer which I found difficult to use (you have to hold it under their armpit for 2+minutes, hard with a crying baby or fidgety kid) and I think it’s accuracy is compromised because of this. I’d be interested in trialing an easier, more comfortable option.

  24. Sarah Illingworth 24/02/2018 at 6:25 am

This would be excellent to trial on my newborn arriving 27th February 2018. It’s do hard when they are little and can’t tell you what’s wrong thus would give you peirce and mind. Xxxx

  25. Hello123 23/02/2018 at 8:13 pm

My kids both suffer febrile seizures, if they’re temp goes above 39.3 they risk a seizure.. Even an epliptus seizure where they don’t stop without meds, that could be over an hour. Its life threatening and nerve wracking and some piece of mind to keep them safe would be priceless.

  26. kiran 22/02/2018 at 12:54 pm

I didnt sleep last night because of my 9 month old daughter`s fever and flu . I think this would be good for baby to monitor her temperature and for parents for having a trustworthy product as is from Nurofen

  27. Emmalynne Moore 22/02/2018 at 9:37 am

My son has febrile convulsions, caused by high fevers. It is so hard to monitor his temps at night when he is unwell especially because we need to be aware of his temp right throughout the night due to the risk of seizures. This would make my life so much easier. I am so stoked to see a product like this on the market.

  28. Vicbic 21/02/2018 at 8:29 pm

This would be a great product to try. Our wee boy 1 yr old is teething at the moment and gets high temps with it. His older sister had seizures when teething and high temps so something that I am always aware of. Thanks

  29. Nicoley02 21/02/2018 at 1:25 pm

This would be so beneficial especially for parents with babies. After the injections that they need and building their immunities they do have more risk of temps which can be dangerous in young ones. The one time parents do worry about their child’s temp is when they are sleeping and they do sleep more when they have a temp. This would put our minds at ease knowing we can check the temp of our sick babies with out having to wake or disturb them. It would give us parents a better nights sleep aswell. Great invention and being a paranoid mum myself I would love to be considered for one of these

  30. joyceloto 21/02/2018 at 10:02 am

I would love to have this for my five months old baby girl, as a young first time mother it’s difficult to tell why your child’s crying and what they need etc. This week she had a fever, but creating a more bigot where you could monitor their fever would be something I’ll be willing to try out! So please consider myself thank you
