How To Make A Dreamcatcher

If there is one thing that looks beautiful gently blowing in the wind and sunshine, it’s a dreamcatcher – all whimsical with feathers and beads and delicate string netting.

This dreamcatcher is made from an old CD and coated in glitter for fabulous shimmer.

What you need:

  • An old disc, DVD or CD
  • Glue
  • Fishing wire
  • Glitter
  • Assorted beads, buttons and/or small bells
  • Feathers
  • Paintbrush
  • Electric drill

Activity:

Step 1. Gather what you need to make your dreamcatcher.

Step 2. Using an electric drill, drill one hole in the top of your CD or disc, and three in the bottom, with the middle of the disc directly opposite the top hole.

Step 3. Tie some fishing wire onto the three bottom holes.

Step 4. Because fishing wire is so stiff, it allows children to easily thread beads. Thread some beads along all the bottom wires.

Step 5. To tie off to leave a gap in the wire, thread the wire through the bead once, then loop it through again.

Step 6. Slip the end through the loop and pull taut. Continue with beads, buttons and bells if you wish until you have the look you desire.

Step 7. To stick the feathers in, ensure the feather sits inside a small bead in your dreamcatcher. Dip the feather’s tip into glue.

Step 8. Insert the feather into the small bead until wedged firmly.

Step 9. Tie off the fishing wire on the last beads or bells and cut off your excess wire.

Step 10. Lie your dreamcatcher down on a flat surface.

Step 11. Glue all over the surface of the disc.

Step 12. Sprinkle the glitter on the disc until covered. Once dry, turn over and repeat on other side. Tie another piece of wire into the top home and hang up your dreamcatcher.
