Make an egg carton snake puppet

Make an egg carton snake puppet

This fun egg carton craft project will help develop your child's fine motor skills and give them a fun homemade toy when you've finished making your recycled craft.

What you need:

  • 2 x 12 cup egg cartons
  • string
  • 50cm piece of dowel or rod
  • glue
  • googly craft eyes
  • red felt or craft paper
  • a kitchen skewer
  • scissors

Number of players:
1

Activity:

Start by cutting out each single egg cup. Trim them down so they will fit into one another snugly.

Now use the kitchen skewer to pierce the centre of each cup so you can string them together.

Cut a piece of string, about 75cm long.

Tip one end of the string in craft glue and then pinch it to a point so that it will be easier to thread through each hole. Wait until the glue dries and it should have a nice pointy needle end that will make the job easier.

Get your child to string all the cups together.  You can paint the cups different colours if you want.

Once you have strung the snake's body together, put some eyes on his face and make a long forked tongue and stick it on.

Now cut four pieces of string, roughly the same length – about 30-45cm each.

Tie a piece of string at intervals along the snake's body.

Attach the top part of the string to the piece of dowel.

Your snake puppet is ready for some puppeteering.
