Make toilet roll jewellery

Making homemade jewellery out of recycled bits and bobs is a fun kids craft that can also be a great Mother's Day or Valentine's Day gift. These two easy jewellery ideas are made out of a toilet roll.

What you need:

For the heart necklace:

  • 1 x toilet roll
  • red paint
  • paintbrush
  • scissors
  • 40cm of coloured string
  • hole punch (optional)

For the watch:

  • 1 x toilet roll
  • scissors
  • 1 x piece of paper or card
  • 1 x marker
  • glue

Number of players:
1

Activity:

To make the heart necklace:

Shape the toilet roll into a heart shape (so that the ends look like a heart).

Paint it red.

Cut it into about six small heart-shaped pieces.

Thread the hearts onto the string. Tie the necklace on your child.

Alternatively you can punch a hole in either side of each heart and string the hearts together that way. Either method is good for your child's fine motor skills, but the latter one may be too tricky for smaller toddlers.

To make the watch:

Cut along the length of the toilet roll (if the circle doesn't fit around your child's wrist as is).

Cut a watch band sized piece off the toilet roll.

Draw a watch face onto your piece of paper or card.

Cut it out. Stick it onto the watch band.

Make a few with different times on them and teach your child how to tell time while you're at it!

  • If you have hygiene concerns regarding the use of making crafts from toilet paper rolls, you can cut a paper towel roll or gift wrap tube to use instead, or roll your own tube using card stock.
