Sensory science: How to make Dr Seuss rainbow oobleck slime
Science and fun go hand in hand in this colourful, messy, science experiment – kids won't even know they're learning! This oobleck starts as a sensory activity and moves on to imagination-filled fun day of pig in a playpen.
What you need:
- tray with high sides
- some pig toys
- small bowls or cups (for as many colours as you'll be making)
For oobleck:
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/2 – 2 cups corn starch
- a few drops of food coloring of your choice
- large bowl
Number of players:
Activity:
Step 1. Mix the oobleck ingredients together in the large bowl and separate into the small bowls or cups. Add food colouring to the oobleck in each cup. Make as many colours as you like, the more there are, the more interesting it gets.
Step 2. Pour into the high-sided tray and let the kids mix it up. Make sure you get them to lift it up as a solid and let it run through their fingers as a liquid – and welcome them to the world of science!
Step 3. Introduce the piggies once the oobleck becomes a nice muddy mix.
Step 4. Enjoy the imaginations of your children as they play in the oobleck all day.
