The Very Hungry Caterpillar mask

The Very Hungry Caterpillar mask

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a much-loved children's book by Eric Carle. You can create your own easy Very Hungry Hungry Caterpillar dress up costume by following our simple instructions below.

What you need:

  • 1 x paper plate
  • red paint and paint brush
  • green construction paper
  • yellow construction paper
  • black marker pen
  • brown foam board
  • 30cm hat elastic
  • chopstick or bamboo skewer
  • glue
  • scissors

Number of players:

Activity:

Paint the back side of the paper plate red.

Now cut out two yellow ovals (about 3cm in height) and two slightly smaller green ovals. These will be the caterpillar's eyes.

Once the red paint is dry, stick the eyes on.

Draw a small black circle on for the mouth.

Draw two antennae onto the brown foam board and cut them out. Glue them to the top of the caterpillar's head.

Now you can either attach a chopstick or skewer to the mask as a mask handle (masquerade ball-style) or you can attach hat elastic and fix it to your child's face that way.

Hints and tips:

To complete The Very Hungry Caterpillar look, add a green onesie or green top and leggings. Munch. Munch.
