Since there isn't much of a chance of creating real snowmen at Christmas time in most parts of New Zealand, let the kids fake it with some cotton wool and foam balls. Here's how.
You'll need:
- Foam balls in different sizes (three would be best for true snowman shape)
- Craft glue
- Small buttons
- Pipe cleaner cut and folded in half
- Stick-on eyes
- Bottle lids and cotton spools cut in half for hats
- Wooden skewer
- Cotton wool – loose or the balls broken up
Step one
Cut the wooden skewer so it'll fit through the number of balls you have. Push from the bottom through the top and insert the top ball on the point so there is no skewer pushing through any of the balls.
Step two
Let the kids glue the balls and stick on the cotton wool. Glue on the eyes, button and hat and have the adult stick the folded piece of pipe cleaner in as a nose so there are no sharp ends sticking out.
