Planning for the arrival of a precious new life will likely mean your attention is focused on the safest and most healthy baby products. You can make a difference to the world you are welcoming your baby in to by choosing products that love the planet and are effective and gentle.

By the time you are around 36 weeks pregnant you will want to have your bag all packed and ready to go. Here are our top tips for eco and baby friendly products to include.

You

Lips
During and after labour your lips can get really dry and uncomfortable so pop some nourishing lip balm from Ecostore in your bag.

Skin, Hair and Body
Your first shower after your baby is born will be a real treat. Ecostore have some great hair products and body wash, and after you can moisturise your tired body and face.

Don’t forget to include toothbrush and toothpaste – Ecostore now have great range of eco friendly toothbrushes and toothpastes.

Hands
Constant hand washing is going to be a part of your life now! In addition to your normal handwashing  routine, you will be adding in after nappies and before feeds so your hands will easily become dry so pop a lovely hand cream like the Extra Moisturising one from Ecostore in your hospital bag

Baby

Skin
Your baby is likely to be born with a creamy white coating on their skin called vernix. This helped protect baby’s skin while in the womb and actually helps your baby regulate their temperature while continuing to protect their skin. For this reason it is not recommended that you bath baby for 24-48 hours after they are born. Water is all you need for the first few weeks of bathing.

It is common for new-born skin to get a bit flaky and dry as the skin adapts to the new environment, so you could pop an Ecostore moisturiser especially formulated for babies in the bag too.

Bottom
The first poo your baby will do is called ‘meconium’. It is greenish black and thick – looks a bit like liquid liquorice! As it’s a bit sticky and tricky to remove from your baby’s bottom, applying the Ecostore nappy balm helps provide a barrier and makes the clean up a bit easier. A bottom balm is also a great way to avoid nappy rashes too.

Touch
Skin to skin touch is known to be really important for new babies. You can continue kangaroo care as it’s sometimes known for as long as you like but you might also like to introduce baby massage as this also helps your baby feel calm and loved. Eco Store Baby Oil  has black currant and almond oil and is perfect for baby massage. It’s also ideal for when your support person gives you a massage too!

Great read. I remember I packed my hospital bag and only had things for baby apart from maternity pads and breast pads for myself. My mum made me a wee pamper pack with purfumes, talc, deodorant, lip balm etc and I never thought id need lip balm but boy i did. My lips were so dry and cracked. We always forget about ourselves with a wee one coming into the world its all about them more or less. My favourite eco friendly product was eco baby oil. I loved giving my babies massage’s to help them relax

I didn’t even have a bag packed haha – my daughter came 2 weeks early on Boxing Day so was taken a bit by surprise. We lived really close to the hospital at the time so hubby could just pop out and pick up what I needed while I was in the hospital anyway 🙂

A couple of years back I was lucky enough to win an Eco Store package. It had a lovely Eco store moisturiser in it along with a body wash. They felt so nice on my skin. My children were older when I won this but I think had I known about these products when I was in hospital having my babies, and knowing now how lovely they feel, then I would have packed some in my maternity bag as a treat for me after birth. I would recommend these to all new mums!
