Colourful butterflies

Colourful butterflies

Children love to draw butterflies because of their amazing colours, shapes and variety. Now the kids can take their art and craft activity to the next level and make 3-D butterflies to hang from their ceilings and on their walls. It's simple, fun and a pretty addition to any room.

What you need:

  • Any size coffee filters
  • Coloured pens or markers or paints
  • Colourful pipe cleaners
  • A spray bottle
  • Fridge magnets

Number of players:
1+

Activity:

Start the kids off colouring the coffee filters any colour or all the colours they want on their butterfly.

Slit the edges of the coffee filter open so that you are left with the two “wings” of the butterfly.

Grab your spray bottle and give the filter a good spray so that the colours start to run and blend.

Let it dry.

Once dry, pinch the middle of the coffee filter and wrap a pipe cleaner around it, or a clothes peg. This becomes the central body of the butterfly.

Let some of the pipe cleaner extend from the top of the butterfly body as antenna.

Place some glue on the back of the clothes peg or pipe cleaner and put it on the fridge for all to enjoy!

Notes:

  • If you prefer to use paints, have the children paint on side of the coffee filter before slitting the sides and pressing the two facing papers together to smear the colours in a mirrored effect.
