The importance of moisturising skin in summer

Advertorial

NIVEA SUN Protect & Moisture Sunscreen Lotions care for your skin in more ways than one, combining UV protection with moisturising care. Highly effective UVA & UVB filters shield the skin from sun damage and harmful UV rays. Plus, the moisturising sunscreen formula with Vitamin E and Panthenol, help keeps the skin hydrated for up to 24 hours.

Summer is on its way (yes!). And while we crave those long hot days and balmy evenings enjoying the beach, bush, and BBQ, the New Zealand sun can be unforgivingly harsh.

The fact that we have beautiful clear skies with little air pollution actually increases the UV rays that reach us here in NZ (along with our proximity to the sun in summer and that o-zone depletion!). Here in New Zealand we also have the highest rate of melanoma skin cancer. So it is very important to do all that you can to protect yourself and your family from the harmful effects of the sun, especially from September through to April.

Protecting your skin from the sun with sunscreen, clothing and shade is important. Moisturising your skin can also help to maintain or repair your skin’s protective barrier.

Why does our skin need moisture?

Without moisture your skin may become dry and vulnerable to sun damage. Un-moisturised skin can result in dry, cracked, or broken skin, which can reduce your skin’s protective barrier function and make it more vulnerable to environmental factors, like UV rays. So moisturised skin is less vulnerable to sun damage compared to broken skin.

Moisturise and protect with NIVEA SUN

NIVEA SUN cares for your skin in more ways than one. NIVEA SUN sunscreen contains broad spectrum UVA and UVB filters that protect and shield the skin from sun damage. Whilst also containing moisturising ingredients, Panthenol and Vitamin E providing 24 hour moisturisation.

Protect your skin, love the beach

NIVEA know that reefs are suffering at the hands of global climate change due to rising ocean temperatures, as the stress of warm water causes corals to bleach. In addition, studies have shown that the UV filters Oxybenzone and Octinoxate can have a negative impact on coral reefs. As a result, the Hawaii Reef Bill proposes to ban the two UV filters Oxybenzone and Octinoxate from January 2021. NIVEA SUN sunscreens do not contain these two UV filters.

I have sensitive skin that is prone to dryness so it is great to know that there are moisturising sun skins available.

I just had to click that melanoma link. To think NZ has the highest rate for this just shows that the sun here is deadly. We all need to be aware before it could happen to us or to our kids.

What an interesting read. I always have to moisturise my legs and arms or I get major itchy skin and pay for it.

Interesting – did not realise that dry skin can make your skin more susceptible to the damage from the sun’s rays. I should be moisturising much more often.

I will put my hand up and say I do nothing for my skin aside from wash it in the shower. I don’t cleanse, tone or moisturise. I do sunscreen if it’s summer and I will be outside and that’s it. Whoops! I know I should be doing better, but it feels like another thing to add often.

I would love to say that I moisturise day and night but it would be a lie… I really need to because I really do notice the difference in my skin when I do. Time to be proactive and look after my skin better!!

I do moisturise my face and neck day and night but must admit I am very slack with the remainder of my body. I will only moisturise when it gets to the point where my skin has completely dried out which is not good at all!

I definately do not use enough moisturiser I think I need to be more conscious of this. Nivea sun sounds good in that it also provides 24 hour moisturiser for your skin this sounds great. Skin definately drys out fast when a moisturiser is not used.

I actually admit that I don’t moisturise my skin enough! I guess because I just can’t be bothered due to time etc. I really do need to purchase a decent skinfood and take the time to look after my skin, especially as I’m getting older now and it will start to dry out more 🙂
