Got some old magazines lying around? Why not turn them into your Christmas table centrepiece by making these magazine Christmas trees.
You’ll need:
- An old magazine (the thicker it is, the better it will look but it also takes longer; about 200 pages is ideal)
- Paint or spray paint (optional)
- Double-sided tape (optional)
- Glitter (optional)
- Star decoration (optional)

Step one
Bend the magazine backwards and forwards as though you’ve read it a thousand times and it’s really pre-loved.
Step two
Starting with the cover, fold from the top right hand corner down into the spine so it becomes a triangle.
Step three
Repeat on the same page, so it becomes a narrower triangle and hangs over the bottom of the magazine. It should look a little bit like a tie (see image above).
Step four
Repeat until you’ve done the whole magazine. Watch TV or sit in the sun while you do the folds – it can take a while!
Step five
Now fold the little triangle at the bottom upwards and make a crease. Tuck this underneath the folded triangle so it’s neat and tidy. Repeat on all pages. The magazine should now stand upright by itself – you’ll need to fan out the pages a little so they’re evenly spaced and may need to stick some of the pages together with a little double-sided tape.
Step six
You can either leave the magazine trees as is or paint them, or sprinkle them with glitter or attach a star decoration on top.
