Win 1 of 5 copies of Ernie and the Magic Kennel

A debut book from popular radio personalities Robert Rakete & Jeanette Thomas is inspired by a radio station dog and Jeanette’s rescue dog!

Ernie and the Magic Kennel is a jaunty tale of a stray dog who joins in an adventure to visit the Queen and in the process finds a home.

Ernie is a corgi of right royal pedigree who lives in a flash kennel that resembles a castle. Benny is a street dog who doesn’t have a home. When Ernie receives a magical invitation to visit the Queen at Buckingham Palace, picking up other pedigree dogs along the way, Benny, who has followed the trail of magic, climbs aboard, and together they set off for the other side of the world in Ernie’s magic flying kennel.

Authors Robert Rakete and Jeanette Thomas say, “We can’t wait for everyone to meet Ernie and Benny and all their doggy friends. It’s hard to believe that a little idea we had two years ago is now an actual book – one that rhymes, no less! We had so much fun telling the story of the magic kennel and hope it’s loved by kids and families across Aotearoa.”

While Kimberly Andrews says, “Illustrating this story was an immersive and rewarding experience – I ‘flew’ with Ernie and his buddies to some of the most beautiful parts of the world. WOOF!”

Scholastic New Zealand Publisher Lynette Evans adds, “At this time, when a flight of the imagination and escape through storytelling seems more important than ever for children, we are excited that Jeanette, Robert and Kimberly have created this warm-hearted, total tail-wagger of a tale for all to enjoy.”

Author proceeds support the Saving Hope rescue dog charity and the DUFFY Books in Homes charity. Superbly illustrated by the winner of the 2019 Russell Clark Award for Illustration, Kimberly Andrews, children will delight in this doggy tale of adventure, friendship and loyalty.
