One of the things that school parents will talk about the most as the kids head back to school is the school stationery list!
That innocent-looking list of requirements will be hunted down by parents wanting to get in early on back to school sales and will be scrutinised like it’s the Geneva Convention!
If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by your child’s requirements, put it down for a moment and check out our top tips for conquering the list.
Exercise books
Check what exercise books your child has left over from the previous year and if they match up with the school’s stationery list. If there’s plenty of pages left to be used, just reuse the same book. If there’s a requirement for a lot of one book, ie 1B5, buy a couple of spares to have on hand when the old ones run out.
For anything new that is needed, shop at Warehouse Stationery for back to school supplies.
Stationery
Raid the art box, the stationery drawer, and everyone’s pencil cases to see what’s usable, what’s done its time, what can be transferred to a different child, and what you need to purchase. Most schools will require students to have pens, pencils, ruler, eraser, glue stick, pencil sharpener, highlighters, whiteboard pens, coloured pencils, protactor, and compass.
Don’t forget to make sure the pencil case is big enough to fit it all in and label everything!
BYOD
When your child needs to have a digital device for school work it pays to check with the school before you purchase to ensure you are buying something with the minimum specifications needed, or it can be an expensive mistake. Laptops are powerful but often expensive and can be heavy. Chromebooks have smaller storage and less capability but cost less than a full laptop and will likely suffice for school work. Tablets are usually the cheapest option but often are insufficient for high school classes.
Using a backpack with a padded tech sleeve will help to keep the digital device safe.
Essential technology
Modern learning often means that kids need additional tech to use with their digital device. For instance, your child may require headphones and a USB flash drive for saving and sharing projects. Keep the expensive headphones for home use and choose a light and flexible pair for school use so they can be thrown in the backpack.
