Apple and jam tarts
Ingredients
- 1 quantity of shortcrust pastry, home made or store bought sheets
- 2 apples
- 2 figs
- 1/2 cup apple jelly (or jam)
- 4 tbsp cinnamon sugar
Method
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.
If using homemade pastry, remove from the fridge and let soften up a little. For ready-made pastry just thaw it a little before using.
Meanwhile, get the kids up to the kitchen bench and if they are old enough, ask them to slice the fruit into thin rounds. Once the pastry is ready to go, roll it out to about 5mm thick and using cookie cutters cut into rounds or desired shape.
Place these on a lined baking tray and then press fruit slices down on each one. Pop the apple jelly or jam in the microwave for about 20 seconds and then, using a pastry brush, liberally brush with the jelly. Dust with cinnamon sugar and then place in the oven for 10 minutes or until the fruit is soft and the pastry golden brown.
Serve with a dollop of nice yoghurt or ice cream.
Notes
- These are perfect for cooking with kids, when we make them at home I make the dough in advance (or pull out ready-made sheets from the freezer) and then bring the kids over to slice the fruit, roll out the dough, cut it into shapes and brush with jam.
- These can be made with pretty much any fruit/jam combination you have on-hand.
