Pork Burgers with Sweet Onion and Apples
Ingredients
- oil spray
- 4 thick bread slices (ciabatta, Turkish or sourdough), toasted
Burger Patties
- 400g extra lean pork mince
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tsp ground sage
- 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- ¼ cup (25g) breadcrumbs
- salt and pepper
Sweet Onion and Apple Sauce
- 2 tsp (10ml) olive oil
- 1 large onion (160g), peeled and finely sliced
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 apples (360g), peeled and finely sliced
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp (40ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp salt and pepper
- 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
Method
Mix all burger patty ingredients together and form into 4 burger patties. Set aside.
To make the Sweet Onion and Apple Sauce: Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan and add onion with a pinch of salt.
Cook on low for 5 minutes before adding apple, cinnamon, sugar, cider vinegar, pepper and thyme.
Stir, cover and continue to cook for 6-8 minutes until soft and fragrant and the apples are cooked through.
Heat a non-stick frying pan on medium, spray lightly with oil and add burger patties.
Cook for 4 minutes per side until cooked through.
Rest patties on a board for 5 minutes before serving on toast topped with apple sauce.
