Fruit skewers

Let the kids loose on this one as they choose their favourite fruit to thread on to skewers. Dip them in yoghurt and then roll in coconut, chocolate (or both!) for a fun and fruity treat

Ingredients

  • 6 wooden skewers

  • 1 red apple

  • 0.5 tbsp honey dew melon

  • 2 bananas

  • 1 cup vanilla yoghurt

    (250mL)

  • 1 Flake chocolate bar

  • ½ cup desiccated coconut

  • 2 yellow food colouring

    optional

  • 2 red food colouring

    optional

  • 1 wooden skewers
  • 1 shallow bowl

Instructions

  1. Quarter and core the apples, then cut each quarter into pieces about 2cm square.
  2. Peel bananas and chop each into 6 pieces.
  3. Peel honeydew, deseed and chop into 2cm square pieces.
  4. For each skewer, thread on two pieces of each fruit.
  5. Pour yoghurt into a shallow bowl.
  6. Place coconut in a shallow bowl, add 2 drops of yellow and red colouring (optional) and mix well – you should end up with some yellow, orange and red flecks.
  7. Crumble the Flake bar into a shallow bowl.
  8. Serve the fruit skewers on a plate, let the kids choose one, dip it in the yoghurt and then roll in the coconut or Flake.

Notes

Tip
If you would prefer not to use food colouring, use plain coconut, or toast it in a frypan over low heat.
Variation
Use your kids’ favourite fruits.
Variation
If you want to avoid the chocolate, you could use sprinkles or 100s and 100s or finely chopped dried fruit.
