Making a pizza garden is a fun activity for the whole family to get involved in and watch as the garden grows. Kids will also love being able to make a pizza with ingredients from their pizza garden!
What you need:
- Gardening tools
- 8 different types of pizza vegetable and herb seeds (such as onions, capsicum, zucchini, broccoli, spinach, rocket, oregano, basil, parsley)
- Tomato plant
- Garden stake/cane
- Twine
Creating your pizza garden
Choose an area in your veggie patch that gets good sun to position your pizza garden. Clear any weeds and dig in some compost to give your plants the best conditions to grow.
You can plant in rows or squares, or to make it more fun, plant each type of seed in its own “wedge” of a round pizza shape. You can mark out the wedges using garden twine tied to markers or garden stakes.
Plant the tomato plant in the middle and sow each type of seed into its individual sections so you have eight different vegetables or herbs.
Keep your pizza garden free of weeds and pests and water regularly.
Watch as the pizza garden grows, then harvest and make homemade pizzas!
Note: If you’re wanting quicker results, you can grow your pizza garden using seedlings.
