Humans can not live by lasagne and pizza alone … yeah, try telling that to Garfield (or your fussy-eating five-year-old!). But seriously, Garfield and the Italians may be on to something. There’s sure to be something for every tastebud so bookmark a few for your dinner plans.
Lasagnes to dig into
1. Garfield’s favourite: Classic lasagne
Nothing says comfort food like a home-baked lasagne! This classic, budget-friendly recipe will make enough to feed up to eight people or provide plenty of leftovers to pop in the freezer for “I don’t want to cook” nights.
2. One pan lasagne
No one likes having to wash all those dishes after a great meal so dial down the after-dinner chores with this awesome one-pan option.
3. Mini chicken lasagnes
These mini chicken lasagnes are full of trickery and shortcuts so you’ll have these made in no time at all. They’re delicious and kids love the individual serves.
4. Taco lasagne
Can’t decide between Mexican and Italian for dinner? You can have the best of both cuisines with this easy taco lasagne! It’s a simple oven bake with delicious layers of Mexican-flavoured beef, with tortillas, salsa and beans.
5. Chocolate lasagne
OK, not strictly a lasagne but we’re allowed to stretch the rules when it comes to chocolate, right? This chocolate lasagne has layers of Oreo biscuits, cheesecake, chocolate pudding, and cream. Make up a tray for your next gathering and watch it disappear.
Pizza perfection
1. Barbecue chicken and mushroom pizza
This pizza just disappears when it hits the dinner table. A combination of chicken and smoky barbecue sauce with mushrooms and capsicum is something that the whānau will devour.
2. Bacon cheeseburger pizza balls
These bacon cheeseburger pizza balls have all the flavour of a delicious cheeseburger, wrapped up in pizza dough. Bake them for a picnic, party or just for a fun cooking activity with the kids.
3. Ham and pineapple muffin pizzas
These amazingly simple mini pizzas are perfect for a kids’ lunch. Change up the ingredients to include salami, capsicum, cooked chicken, or … yep, we’re going there … tinned spaghetti!
4. Pizza with diced chorizo
This meatlovers-style pizza can be made with diced chorizo, bacon strips, cooked chicken, or other cooked meats. But it’s real point of difference is that it features a white pizza sauce – ideal for those who aren’t so keen on tomatoes.
5. Meatball pizza subs
These homemade pizza subs use hot dog rolls as the base and are super easy to make. The meatballs and your choice of favourite toppings are sure to have the kids asking for these again and again.
