Chocolate slice

Baking a slice is a great way to enjoy a sweet treat. This easy chocolate slice combines coconut with a chocolate-y base and a delicious chocolate icing that is added while the slice is still warm.

Ingredients

  • 230g butter

    melted

  • 2 cups self-raising flour

  • 2 cups brown sugar

  • 2 cups dessicated coconut

  • ½ cup cocoa

    sifted

  • 2 tbsp cocoa

    For icing

  • 1 cup icing sugar

    For icing

  • 1 tbsp milk

    For icing

  • 1 tbsp butter

    melted, for icing

  • 1 tbsp coconut

    For icing

Equipment

  • 1 slice tray
  • 1 baking paper
  • 1 large bowl

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C. Line a slice tray with baking paper and set aside.
  2. Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl, add melted butter and stir well.
  3. Press mixture firmly into a slice tray.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes.
  5. To make the icing, sift icing sugar and cocoa and stir in melted butter and milk.
  6. Spread over the warm slice and sprinkle coconut over the top.
  7. Leave to cool and cut into 5cm by 5cm squares.

This is great for fetes and cake stalls.
