Homemade taco sauce

Are you looking for a tangy sauce or salsa for your tacos, burritos, nachos or fajitas? This homemade version is easy and you can make it from pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp olive oil

    (10ml)

  • 1 small onion

    finely chopped

  • 1 small red capsicum

    finely chopped

  • 1 clove garlic

    minced

  • 1 pinch salt

  • 1 diced tomatoes

    (400g)

  • ½ cup vegetable stock

    (125ml)

  • 1 tbsp white vinegar

    (20ml)

  • 2 tsp cumin

  • 2 tsp smokey paprika

  • ¼ tsp chilli powder

    optional

  • 1 tsp sugar

Equipment

  • 1 small saucepan
  • 1 blender or food processor

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a small saucepan and add onion, capsicum and garlic with a pinch of salt.
  2. Cook on low for 8 minutes until soft.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and bring to the boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
  5. Leave it as is or blend/process for a smooth sauce.

Ideal on pizza, tacos or even with corn chips as a dip.

Variation
If you don’t have vegetable stock you can substitute it for beef stock, which will give you a more robust flavour.
